We had lots of goals and activities planned for summer- and then summer just zoomed by and we didn’t get to accomplish hardly any of the fun things we planned!

One of those things was making a fairy garden! Hobby Lobby has a whole aisle of cute little fairy supplies from mailboxes to full houses! We purchased all the supplies to create a fun fairy home in one of our flower boxes and never made it! Instead of putting it off until next summer- We decided to turn a pumpkin into an enchanted home for tiny creatures!

It’s such a perfect craft to do now that the days are colder and bonus points because it’s just the cutest fall decor!

How to make a pumpkin fairy house

I’m going to walk you through the step by step process on how to create your own cute fairy pumpkin for Fall! You might have to adjust it depending on the supplies you bought or make!

Pumpkin door

The biggest and main part is the doorway so that’s where I started! I laid it out on the pumpkin where I wanted it and traced around it.

I took a utility knife and carved out the pumpkin for the door arch to fit inside.

The archway didn’t have a door, so I took a wood patterned piece of paper and traced a door around the arch. I glued it onto a piece of foam core board to make the door a little more sturdy.

Then I hot glued the door onto the pumpkin.

I added the archway with hot glue. I wasn’t sure if the hot glue would hold up since it’s pretty solid! But it held up great!

Create the window

Repeat the same process for the windows. I made them circle-shaped but I thought a cute archway window with a flower box at the bottom would be darling too!

I added the same brown paper for shutters but a pretty yellow paper would look like the lights are on in the fairy house.

Add a little hot glue around each window and place rocks to create the frame.

Pumpkin stem

Since the look I was going for was a whimsical fairy pumpkin, I thought I should change up the stem slightly. I used air dry clay in brown to create a fun twisty-turny pumpkin stem

You could also use the air dry clay to create the shutters for the window, the stairs up to the door or even the frame around the door!

Pumpkin fairy base

I was ready to move on to making the path and adding the fun details- but I realized I didn’t even plan on a base for this house to sit! Hobby Lobby has round cutting boards, chargers, or even a lazy Susan you could build this up on. Since I was already home, I had to improvise and ended up cutting the foam core board that I used to make the door into a big circle!

I painted it brown to represent dirt.

Once it was dry, It was time to hot glue! Glue the pumpkin where you want it and then add a little trail up to the door. I used the same wood paper for the door but you could make it all with the stones!

I purchased this box of moss. It had 6 different kinds and colors and it worked so well with this project! One of them was a nice flat sheet of moss. I trimmed it with scissors to fit around the base and just hot glued it on.

Add Fairy lights

What is a magical fairy pumpkin without some fairy lights? I started adding in the details before I put on the fairy lights, but I recommend adding in the fairy lights first so you can cover the little wire with the moss.

Add the House details

This is where you get glue happy! We glued down rocks for the path, glued down the bushes around the base of the pumpkin and filled in the cracks around the window and door with moss.

Since this is just being used on our table as fall decor, I glued everything in place- even the pumpkins and squirrels. BUT if you have little ones at home, you could stop with the moss and rocks and then let them play with the fun little details like the lamp post, the ladder, the gardening tools, the forest animals, and the mushrooms.

This fairy house turned out cuter than I could have imagined! I keep wanting to add to it! Maybe a chimney out of air dray clay?! and I need to grab some felt from Hobby Lobby to make a little welcome mat!

Since I built it on a circle base, I can easily move it from table to mantle!

I just tuck in the cute fabric mushrooms I found at Hobby Lobby next to it and add a few more pumpkins! I just love this darling Pumpkin Fairy House!

Check out how cute it looks with the twinkly little fairy lights!
