Roller Disco Wedding Ideas
Our roller disco wedding of dreams – a real labour of love from start to finish!
When I had the idea of creating our roller disco wedding I knew we had to go all in and drizzle copious amounts of delicious fun and energy into the day.
There’s no reason you can’t pour more of who you are and what you love into your wedding day and I wanted to show that. Put your skates on, do the dance, have a roller disco wedding if it’s your thing! Take the traditional parts you want and leave the bits you don’t!
The Monmouthshire wedding venue, Llantilio House, is a beautifully renovated barn in the South Wales countryside. Surrounded by rolling fields, it has the cosiest farmhouse accommodation, a pool and spa area; it’s the perfect mix of both modern and traditional.
The barn gave us the character and space we wanted for our roller wedding; a nod to both the modern and the traditional.
In terms of styling, Onkoi Event Decor did a fantastic job creating a beautiful display of fabrics and drapery from the interior of the barn. With Llantilio’s statement disco ball and softened by candles, the barn was the perfect backdrop for our vision.
We wanted a retro vibe with a 70’s colour palette; hints of my mother’s 70’s bridesmaid dresses within the creams, peach and rust brown drapery. The roller disco theme was crying out for a little bit of a retro throwback and we happily provided it!
Our model couple, Zaira and Ceejay, are the most amazing performers and professional roller skaters, featuring in BBC and Netflix dramas.
They teach skating together at all levels in Bristol, Ceejay has a background as a professional dancer and Zaira is a 2 times international roller dance champion. Along with all that – they are the most incredibly talented and loveliest real couple that made the day the fantastic success it was!
I knew we had to have Zaira and Ceejay able to show off their skills while suited and booted but knew how important it was to still look absolutely knockout.
All About Eve and Abitto really delivered on both these fronts! We had three different combinations of dresses and suits.
For Zaira: we opted for a couple of shorter options, the shortest one with beautifully embroidered sleeves to show off her footwork. A longer flowing one with a sweetheart neckline and bows on the shoulders – as soon as I saw it, I knew how incredible Zaira would look twirling in that skirt.
And lastly a floor-length dress, with puff sleeves and a split for more stationary poses (although that didn’t stop Zaira dancing in it!). While less practical for skating – I loved the sparkly drama of this dress and the little peekaboo slit for showing off the roller skates. All three of these looked amazing on Zaira, each time she put on a new one I’d proclaim it was my favourite!
We chose Ceejay’s suits from Abitto. I loved both tweed suits; the Ascot light brown and the Herringbone brown with orange detail definitely gave a nod to all things retro and I was surprised how much movement these still allowed for Ceejay.
I especially loved the linen sage suit on Ceejay and how it popped with our colour scheme.
Photography and videography captured by husband and wife team. I’m Heather, the old hand, photographer and editor and Moses is the new addition in videography. He has caught up quickly, very much naturally talented and has a great eye.
I’m a big lover of natural light; I love the drama it creates and luckily the barn had excellent natural light with large windows on a bright but cloud-covered day. I was keen to capture the feel and the movement of the day so I used Fractals via Rigu photo; the kaleidoscope effect of the fractals perfectly captured the flow of their dance.
Specialising in dried and preserved flower arrangements, Sown and Wild created a beautiful display that was both sustainably made and eco-friendly. Chloe encourages brides to enjoy her florals for longer by opting to go for dried.
Our colour palette of warm terracotta, creams, peach and rust brown was ideal for dried flowers with their natural earthy tones. We were keen to have them at ankle height to focus attention to the couples’ footwork.
Cardiff-based Fizz Goes Pop’s collection of celestial earrings were perfect for the shoot. We opted for a selection of stars and dangly pendants in gold and peach for Zaira.
We went for a soft, fresh-faced bridal look with Charlotte from Beauty Style Hair and Makeup and large, gentle curls from Niki from Just Gorgeous Wedding Hair. Niki reworked Zaira’s hair part way through into a beautiful updo and back down for the final look; haloed by the sweetest headband from All About Eve.
The amazing Biggz Barbers in Bristol gave Ceejay a fresh cut the day before our roller skating nuptials.
Keeping with the retro vibe, we settled upon a vintage-style cake from Butter and Sugar Cakes with swirls of piping in cream and soft pink.
Shropshire Petals supplied the fantastic biodegradable confetti cannons. These cannons showered the couple with nature’s confetti; giving us the explosion of excitement we knew this day needed whilst 100% natural, eco-friendly and locally grown.
Our shoot featured lots of local wedding vendors as well as some international players from the world of roller skating.
Zaira’s incredible bridal skates were made especially for the shoot by GH Skates and Ceejay’s were his absolute favourite pair from Riedell Roller. Though the couple had their individual skates they both had matching gold light-up wheels from Dazey Skate Co which tied the pair together really sweetly; giving us the joyous sparkly disco wheels we needed.
The black and white checkered dance floor from In Out Flooring gave us the option to skate in all areas – they work great as a dance floor especially for those that want to whip out the skates on their wedding day!
Oh my, what a gorgeous set of images. Huge thanks goes to the brilliant team below for sharing with us these amazing roller disco wedding ideas.
