How to make a Pokeball

Earlier this week we made Pokémon slime, now we have been making Pokéballs! Well you have to have something to put your Pokémon in once they have been captured in the slime. This was EC’s idea for an activity. He asked if we could make some and if I had anything we could use. Luckily enough I had some fillable ornaments left over their Valentine’s gifts.

You will need:

  • Fillable ornaments * I got our ones from amazon.co.uk
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Black marker pen
  • White stickers

* Make sure that you get the ones that open in half, not the ones that only open from the top.

I didn’t realise just how many different types of Pokéballs there were. It has been a while since I have seen Pokémon, so EC has been re-educating me. I recommend doing a quick google search to find them.

Make sure that you use acrylic paint for this, poster paint just wont stick to the plastic.

When painting the balls it is easiest to paint the inside rather than the outside. We did ours in thin coats and kept building up the layers until it was thick enough.  With the red I simple poured some paint in and tilted the ball until it was all evenly coated. I then left this to dry for a while.

Once you have finished painting draw a thick black line around the middle on the outside of the ball.

Next cut out a small white circle, cut it in half and stick it onto the ball. Finish it off with another thick black line around the circle.

This craft was a total Nanny win! EC was thrilled with his balls, although he made sure to let his sister know that she wasn’t allowed to play with any of them. Don’t you just love the sharing. Don’t worry I made sure that I saved her some ornaments so that she could make some of her own.
