Rewilding Europe moves to a new home

Rewilding Europe has just moved to a new head office on the outskirts of Nijmegen, which has fittingly been named “Wild Quarters”. Surrounded by nature, this new and inspiring space is the start of a new chapter for Rewilding Europe, positioning us well to accelerate the scaling up of rewilding across Europe.

Room to grow

Rewilding Europe is delighted to announce that it has moved to “Wild Quarters” – our new head office – on the verdant outskirts of the Dutch city of Nijmegen. Surrounded by lush woodlands, and close to a number of Dutch rewilding sites, such as those on the floodplains of the Rhine and Meuse rivers, the location enjoys a profound connection with nature. The building housing the office, which is a national monument, has been extensively renovated to transform it into an inspiring workspace. Wild Quarters was officially declared open on September 12.

Since Rewilding Europe was founded in 2011, we have transitioned from an ambitious idea into an influential and impactful organisation, working to realise large-scale nature recovery across Europe. Moving to Wild Quarters, which represents the start of a new chapter for our developing initiative, will position us well for continued growth, and we look forward to the opportunities our new home will bring.

“Our new headquarters symbolises Rewilding Europe’s commitment to the restoration of nature and will serve as a vibrant hub for European collaboration and synergy,” says Frans Schepers, Rewilding Europe’s Executive Director. “This beautiful, well-equipped office will help us to forge productive new partnerships, and strengthen existing ones, as we continue to push boundaries and work to scale up rewilding across the continent.”

A wonderful location

Until recently, Rewilding Europe’s work was coordinated from an office on the Radboud University campus in Nijmegen. But with our operations expanding, finding a new office with more space became a necessity. Wild Quarters is located just a kilometre away from the old office, in the village of Heilig Landstichting, in the municipality of Berg en Dal.

The new head office enjoys a fantastic location in the grounds of Heilig Landstichting’s Museumpark Orientalis (Holy Land Museum), which contains 29 nationally designated buildings and objects in oriental style, designed by Dutch architect Jan Stuyt. During the renovation, Rewilding Europe made efforts to preserve and restore the heritage value of the building, while also creating a fully functional and welcoming modern office environment.

Intimate connection with nature

Wild Quarters, which is situated on a forested ridge, embodies a deep connection with nature. The interior, conceived by spatial design firm Studio NousNous – a company known for its expertise in biophilic design – makes extensive use of natural and recycled materials. Biophilic design enhances the relationship between people and nature, stimulates creativity, reduces stress, improves mental clarity, and enhances overall well-being.

KEK dnl, a design studio based in Heilig Landstichting, refined the design and managed the implementation with great attention to detail, while contractor Cuppens + zn carried out the renovation.

Rewilding Europe would like to thank all those partners who supported the renovation and realisation of Wild Quarters. We look forward to welcoming all those connected with our work to our new home.
